The 14 strong team is made up of some of Thames Turbo’s finest male and female Triathletes in partnership with local professional Cycling and Triathlon retailer Sigma Sport, the main sponsor.
Team members were selected from the club during the winter based on their previous seasons performances and other attributes they could offer, such as volunteering time to coach less experience members or juniors. Six of the fourteen members who did not already own a Time Trial Bike were offered the Brand new to market for 2008 Pinarello FT1 Triathlon Time Trial bike in full carbon to ride for the season along with a set of Corima Deep section wheels to complete the racing package. In addition the team also enjoy benefits from other team sponsors thanks to deals put together by the Thames Turbo Committee and Sigma Sport Staff such as Powerbar nutrition products, Rudy Project helment and glasses, 2XU elite wetsuits and training kit and Sigma Sport cycle clothing. In return the sponsors have added their logos to the team’s race kit worn at all events which include World Championship Qualifiers, National Championships, London League races, Grand prix events, in which the athletes gain exposure and publicity for the sponsors and the club.
Past members of the Race Team / Elite section include Tim Don, Stuart Hayes, Richard Stannard and Spencer Smith to name but a few, so the club has had a history of top athletes coming through the ranks, so hopefully we can see more World Champions from the Turbo ranks.
